About Best Nutrition Apps

Science-backed nutrition app reviews. Tested monthly by nutritionists.

Our mission

Best Nutrition Apps was founded to address a specific problem: most nutrition app reviews are written by general tech journalists who evaluate apps on interface design and feature lists, without the nutritional science background to assess what actually matters — data accuracy, micronutrient coverage, and clinical validity.

We believe that nutrition tracking tools should be evaluated the same way clinical nutrition software is evaluated: against verified data sources, with measurable accuracy standards, and with input from registered dietitians who understand the difference between tracking calories and tracking health.

Our team

Dr. Emily Rodriguez, MPH — Founder & Editor-in-Chief

Dr. Rodriguez holds a Master of Public Health in Nutrition from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a doctorate in nutritional epidemiology. She spent eight years as a clinical nutritionist at a major academic medical center before founding Best Nutrition Apps in 2025. Her research focus is the translation of clinical nutrition evidence into consumer-facing technology evaluation.

Dr. Rodriguez leads all testing protocols, approves all scoring decisions, and writes the primary analysis on the main rankings page. She can be reached at emily@best-nutrition-apps.com for editorial and correction requests.

Michael Torres, RDN — Lead Reviewer

Michael Torres is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with 12 years of clinical practice across outpatient nutrition counseling, sports nutrition, and diabetes management. He holds additional certifications in diabetes care and education (CDCES) and sports dietetics (CSSD). Michael reviews and validates all individual app reviews before publication and conducts the accuracy testing protocol described in our methodology.

Testing Panel

Our 90-day testing protocol includes an 8-person panel of adult volunteers ranging in age from 24 to 61, including individuals managing type 2 diabetes, athletes in competitive training, and individuals pursuing weight management goals. Panel composition is refreshed annually to maintain representativeness.

Independence

We have no commercial relationship with any app we review. App subscriptions are purchased at standard retail prices. No vendor received advance notice of reviews, scores, or ranking decisions. We generate revenue through affiliate links — when users click through and subscribe to an app, we may receive a commission. This revenue funds our testing operations but has no effect on scoring or rankings.

Founded

Best Nutrition Apps published its first review in January 2026. Rankings are updated monthly following each testing cycle.
